On Friday the 25th of September, the exhibition ‘The Southern Buffalo Fence: Perspectives from the Margins of the Okavango Delta’ opened at the Nhabe Museum in Maun, Botswana.
The exhibition features works from the REWILDING project’s work package 7, led by Wisse van Engelen. The short film ‘The Southern Buffalo Fence’, a photo series, and two information posters detailing the fence, its history and current situation are put on display.
The works are joined by further pieces created by local artists, communities and the NGO WildEntrust. Showing a diversity of forms and formats, these works include a recorded theatre play, a poem, further information posters, wire arts and a fence installation.
Taken together, the exhibition foregrounds the experiences and perspectives of communities who live near a wildlife fence that is broken, and the challenging work of coexisting with the wildlife crossing the broken fence.
The exhibition is guest curated by Wisse van Engelen through a collaboration with the Nhabe Museum and has been made possible by funding from the REPAiR project (www.repairproject.org). It is open to the public till the 25th of October.
